Pure as Gold is beautiful, I only grow one reblooming Iris – Immortality, and have only been successful in getting it to re-flower once, Pure as Gold must look so cheerful in your garden at this time of year.
Yes, Susie, it flowers all winter but takes a couple to years to establish itself and then may only have a couple of flowers but after that there should be flowers throughout winter.
I just love irises. I haven’ t checked to see if my Iris unguicularis is out yet. How exquisite the flowers are. And the Iris ‘Pure as Gold’, is it really out now? I love it, absolutely stunning.
Yes, it really is flowering now! I took the photograph on Tuesday and as you can see there are more buds to open if the weather doesn’t get too much colder. I’m not sure that this one flowered particularly well in spring, but is making up for it now as there are also two stems not just one, maybe they’ll be blooming for New Year’s day!
Hi Tina, welcome to my hesperides garden and for leaving a comment. Iris unguicularis usually flowers for most of the winter, with one or two flowers at a time. ‘Pure as Gold is a bearded iris and is supposed to re-flower but I was expecting September rather than December!
Both lovely in their own way Christina. Your title suggests that maybe ‘As Pure As Gold’ is perhaps flowering out of season but I imagine it must be a most welcome splash of instant sunshine at this time of year.

L’iris unguicularis era una delle piante nel giardino di mia nonna. Da noi c’è quasi sempre nei vecchi giardini, è una pianta resistentissima e capace di sopravvivere da sola a tutto. La fioritura ogni anno è più copiosa.
L’iris giallo è meraviglioso, addirittura rifiorente!
Such cheery color! The reblooming iris are iffy in our shorter growing season but it must be great seeing them again.
I should really give the Iris unguicularis a try, it’s grown south of here and maybe with a sheltered location….. dare I hope?
Iris unguicularis is very tough, it survives for years in abandoned gardens here where it can be subject to temperatures of minus 10° C, but temperatures as low as that don’t usually last for very long. Worth trying as it is so beautiful.
Iris unguicularis now added to my wish list – or rather to my must-have list! Both your irises are just lovely; I’ve not grown any of the reblooming irises before and didn’t know there was so much variation in the rebloom time. It must make December a good deal brighter to have these in bloom 🙂

I have ‘Immortality’ too and that flowered twice this year for the first time, but that was in late September.
What lovely splashes of colour Christina – the sunshine makes them both glow. Glorious sunshine here today, unlike the north of the country…
This week has been very sunny too but much colder than last week.
Gorgeous. Pure As Gold certainly has a deep richness. Does Iris unguicularis bloom throughout the winter? I need to add one to my wish list.

I’m surprised that your iris are blooming in fall. Here in Texas, we’re all a’flutter if that happens. Regardless, they’re both stunning.

And lovely irises they are. I particularly like ‘Pure as Gold’.
It is a gorgeous colour, and seems very robust.
Such a wonderful touch of summer…I needed that on this cold, dreary, winter day.
It is really cheery to see the glowing colour of ‘Pure as Gold’.
Nice to see these blooming as we have a snow storm hitting now…
Poor you!

In Inghilterra è considerato una piante abbastanza rara! È solo giardinieri bravi la conosco.
