It’s Monday and I have a vase, so I’m joining Cathy at Rambling in the Garden https://public-api.wordpress.com/bar/?stat=groovemails-events&bin=wpcom_email_click&redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Framblinginthegarden.wordpress.com%2F2019%2F08%2F05%2Fin-a-vase-on-monday-dotty%2F&sr=1&signature=2d97f929b19ddb142313ef2ddf815c6d&user=11751235&_e=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&_z=z with a vase I made for the table on Saturday.
It’s looking a bit the worse for wear now because it is so hot., but the Zinnias and Dahlias are doing quite well.
Welcome back! The zinnias look great but I’m surprised the dahlia has held up as well, I love that rich purple with the oranges and green. Nice how you snuck in a green zinnia as well. Hope the gardener is also holding up in the heat 🙂
The heat kills me, I can’t even think.
It gets so tiring after a while. I hope your stone walls are keeping you cool, but even then it’s no fun being inside all the time. Maybe a trip is in order. We’ll be heading North later this week, I’m looking forward to wearing a sweatshirt.
Last year we went to the mountains and it was hot during the day but by about 6, it was so cool you needed a jumper – heaven.
Nice to see your post, Christina. I’ve thought of you and your hot, sunny garden over this scalding summer. It is hard to move when it gets this hot!
How hot is it now, Christina? It doesn’t bear thinking about for us who are not as hot, and I am not surprised that for you it feels as if the heat is stultifying your brain.:( Have you not had any rain for months now? The zinnias must love it as they look as fresh as the proverbial daisy. Are the spikes leonitis?
The spikes are Agashe. They have lasted better in a vase before. We had a whole night and day if rain a week ago but before that it was the end of May. This week the temperatures are beginning in the low 30’s but rising to 37, 38.
When it was mid 30s here a couple of weeks ago my brain went mushy too – thankfully we only had about one day of it as we were at my Mum’s some of that week
Here it’s often like it for 2 or even 3 months.
It’s wonderful to see you back with a post, Christina! You have me wishing I’d planted some green zinnias this year. Best wishes for some cooler weather.
The green Zinnias go with almost everything I always wish I’d grown more.
So glad to see this beautiful vase despite the heat you are having. Hoping you get some respite soon.
Love those zinnias. I have a pot full of them and am very happy to see them flower. Yours look splendid. Hopefully you will have some cooler weather soon.
At the moment the forecast is that temperatures are rising.
The zinnias look wonderful despite the heat. Hope your August isn’t as hot as our July was. It is so exhausting. Stay cool Christina!
Good grief, it is hotter there than in South Florida. I hope you have air conditioning! I love those Zinnias and hope I can grow some this winter. The ones in the garden curled up and died. I just got an advert for tulip bulbs – do you think it is time to buy and refrigerate? Made me think of your lovely tulips last year – am glad to see you back in my reader.
Yes, now is a good time to buy and refrigerate. No, we don’t have air conditioning just walls that are 60 cm thick and the wisteria foliage protects the windows from the sun. It is pleasant downstairs a bit warmer upstairs.
Thanks, believe it or not, I spent a summer in the convent in Cortona, similar walls, Italians know how to build things. Looking forward to more vases.
Oh it’s good to see a post from you Christina! I read somewhere that you had a bad reaction to a bite when you were on your holiday with Chloris. I hope that you are well and truly back to full fitness. I was bitten on the leg at the end of January by some unknown beast and had to take a course of oral antibiotics when it didn’t clear. I’ve been very cautious in the garden since. A most summery and sunshiny vase – some flowers thrive in the heat.
Thank you for your concern. I was bitten by an infected tick. I had to have about 4 different antibiotics one of which was by injection. I’m much better now but will still need some blood tests in a couple of months, just to check.
What a marvelous blend of colours! Your use of green flowers is inspiring. Wishing all of us some cooler weather…
Christina I have to give you very very bad news. My dear and beloved Father passed away on August 11 after being only 11 days in the Hospital. We buried her on the 12th. You are a very good friend and your vase would have liked it very much with those beautiful flowers. All the best of Margarita xxx
I was so sorry to read about the death of your father. I’m sure you have very many happy memories of him to help sustain you in your grief. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
Christine, thank you very much for your condolences and your words of encouragement: they are a great comfort in these sad times. It’s true my father was a wonderful father and I have millions and millions of happy memories with him at all stages of my life. But for now I miss him a lot, every day more. Thanks Christine. With love Margarita xx
Even though I am not really blogging any more, do keep in touch.
Hi Christina, I missed seeing you! You are a botanical artist, and your blog has always been among my favorites. I hope the weather is improving for you and that your health is good.
Thank you Debs for your kind words. I did have some health issues, I was bitten by an infected tick in April, but I’m doing fine now. I’m taking a rest from blogging, I’ve been writing it for 12 years and I need some space to do other things but I always enjoy reading your posts.
Orange Zinnias … one of my favorites! Hope you are well, Christine.
