IAVOM – Zinnias the stars

With the rain even the Zinnias are looking fresher and producing quite prolifically again.

There are Zinnias, Asters including ‘Monte Cassino’, Holy Basil flowers and seed heads and some Achillea.

Above a larger arrangement in the sitting room with the same flowers as above with the addition of Perovskia.

OK, so I know I am a bit obsessed with tulips; but when a flower has so many different colours to choose from, and the different varieties flower over such a long period AND you can control their flowering to some extent I don’t think my obsession is so hard to understand.

Last week Cathy at Rambling in the Garden sent out a challenge to create a Japanese style flower arrangement this week; I have to tell you I failed!  I’m sorry Cathy but there are just too many flowers demanding to be picked to fill vase upon vase with home grown blooms.  I will try in the future, I promise but for today restraint has not been my watchword.

My first vase was created on Saturday to enjoy at the weekend, the additions was added this morning.

I didn’t want to miss making a vase this week and joining the ‘in a vase on Monday’ meme, but as I arrived home last evening, when it was already dark I no time to pick anything then.  This morning I was quite surprised but what I found to pick for my small blue vase.

Today has been cold and wet!  So cold I decided it was time to do ‘the change of wardrobe’.  I put away all the linen shirts and trousers and put cashmere jumpers into the draws and, (I can hardly believe this) I actually put one on and I’m not too hot.  The weather continues with its strangeness.
