A garden full of tulips

With winter continuing into April, albeit with some lovely warm spring days to make you believe that spring is really here; I have been busy trying to catch up with clearing the garden of weeds (which, of course, only need a little sunshine to encourage them to grow) and cut back perennials which I usually leave overwinter as habitats for small creatures.  All the work has meant that I have found very little time to share the garden with you. April 7th 2016 Companions for tulips

You will be aware that I love tulips and luckily they grow well in my very free draining soil.  Tulips hate summer wet which is why in the UK it is usual to lift and store them for replanting the following autumn – that is a lot of work so when I lived in England I usually treated them as annuals and planted them in pots. In a vase on Monday – Pretty in pink

In the last week I’ve seen many trees in blossom including, amazingly, some Magnolia, even for central Italy the beginning of March is very early.  But these were in gardens so I wasn’t able to pick any of them for today’s vase. Continue reading
